EATING DISORDER TREATMENT

The Resolve Psychological Services' team helps people with eating disorders (EDs) in order to improve their quality of life and establish a plan for treating them in a safe and effective manner. Resolve’s team uses a variety of top-of-the-line, evidence-based treatment methods, depending on the client’s unique experience and symptoms. We draw from treatment methods such as Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) when providing ED care. We also utilize psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to treat the whole person and strive towards a healthier life and mentality regarding food intake and body image.

The disorders that Resolve’s team addresses include but are not limited to the following: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Orthorexia, and diet culture survivors/yoyo dieters. Resolve’s team works with you to consider how diet culture has impacted you and the development of your eating disorder. Resolve endeavors to make therapy both healing and fun, using humor in therapy as well -- there are times where we have to laugh at the absurdities of what diet culture asks of us. In addition, Resolve’s team believes that all foods fit and also supports the ideas and science behind Health at Every Size (HAES). Some great Instagram influencers that we have found to be healing and consistent with our approach to ED recovery include: Diets_Sont_Work_Haes, FeelGoodDietitan, Diet.Culture.Rebel, and YrFatFriend. Check them out to learn more about the wonderful world of ED recovery.

Establishing healthy eating practices centered in self-love and self-care is the focus of our care. Resolve supports clients at any stage of recovery, from those who are practicing Intuitive Eating and also through supporting clients who may be eating by the clock and/or following a meal plan. Resolve uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and motivational interviewing to help people connect to the part of them that wants to recover, and we explore with them the part of them that may not want to recover. Resolve has a special interest in college and the young professional population that may be affected by EDs.

Resolve’s team works to provide our clients with the ability to mindfully identify and treat their disordered eating thoughts and behaviors, and also shows them how these intersect with other clinical and emotional concerns that they may be exhibiting. EDs can frequently be comorbid with Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and trauma. The members of Resolve’s team are well-equipped to treat these comorbidities, and will establish a plan for you that will help in all of these areas. Eating disorders can be an unhealthy, albeit useful way numbing difficult emotions. The Resolve team helps ED clients to explore healthy ways to manage emotion in a nondestructive manner.

When treating EDs, we do so in collaboration with each client’s recovery team, and we help create teams specialized in ED recovery. Resolve frequently works in collaboration with ED Primary Care Providers (PCPs) in our area to monitor clients for medical stability throughout their care with us. Additionally, Resolve’s team often works collaboratively with specialized ED recovery dietitians, who are essential members of a complete care team.

Contact Resolve Psychological Services to book your first ED recovery appointment. Resolve is ready to help you with your eating disorder in whatever capacity you may be affected, with top-of-the-line techniques. We unfortunately do not treat minors with eating disorders, but we are happy to make referrals in the community for children and adolescents struggling with eating disorders. This is due to the fact that we do not offer the best treatment for minors, which is called Family-Based Treatment for eating disorders (including Maudsley Method techniques). We refer clients to higher levels of care when needed, and frequently collaborate with HLOC systems to provide step-down care at the outpatient level. Resolve cannot wait to help you develop a more healthy relationship with food in order to create an enriching, happy lifestyle.
